The Government of Odisha has started a special yojana or scheme called 'MAMATA' to help pregnant women and new mothers(lactating mothers) who are not getting enough food. It gives them money(maternity benefit scheme) so they can buy better food(good nutrition) and take care of their health during pregnancy and breastfeeding. This helps them stay healthy and take better care of their babies.
Mamata Yojana~Objective:
1. Give some money (partial wage compensation)to pregnant and nursing moms so they can rest more during pregnancy and after delivery.
2. Encourage pregnant women to go to the doctor more often for check-ups and vaccinations for their babies.
3. Help moms learn better ways to take care of themselves and their babies, like breastfeeding and feeding their babies healthy food.
Target Group:
Pregnant and lactating women aged 19 and above, for their first two live births, excluding those who already receive maternity benefits (such as employees or spouses of employees of State Government, Central Government, or PSUs).
Eligibility Criteria of Odisha Mamata Yojana
To avail the benefits of the Odisha Mamata Yojana, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- The applicant should be a permanent resident of Odisha.
- The age of the applicant should be 19 years or above.
- Applicants must register at the Anganwadi center.
- Only pregnant or lactating women can take advantage of this scheme.
- The benefits of this scheme can only be availed for the first two live births.
- Government/public sector undertaking employees and their wives are not eligible to benefit from this scheme.

In a groundbreaking move, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has declared a doubling of the monetary benefits under the Mamata Scheme. Presently, pregnant women receive Rs. 5,000 in two installments through the Mamata Yojana. With the recent announcement, pregnant mothers will now receive an increased support of Rs. 10,000, marking a significant enhancement in welfare measures.
